So, this year we are throwing around the idea of buying them a swimming pool. Joe thinks this is a good plan but I'm worried that giving one gift to 7 people (who will all definitely live at home for at least another 3 years) is kind of weird ... Plus, what if not everyone wants to have a pool? His sister and one brother would love it, I'm sure; but there are 4 kids, ranging in age from 19 to 25 and I don't know if this gift might be a little too young for them. And will his Mom like it as much as his Dad?!? Oh, the dilemma ...
Apparently they talked about getting a pool a few years ago but for some reason never got one. Hmmm ... what should we do? The pool would be similar to this one but it is a little bit better in that is has steel sides, not plastic.
(I realize no one knows them very well, and certainly not better than Joe and I, but any advice would be very much appreciated).

Go for the pool, if nothing else Josh and/or the dogs will like it :P
Its a little easier in Italy. The kids get gifts on Dec.13th (St. Lucia's) and that's about it. I know a family that gets eachother charitable gifts for Christmas. Last year they bought a goat for a family in Africa. That's the coolest gift I've ever heard of!
If I were you I'd make sure it was ok with the parents as it is their house. So it won;t be a surprise for them, but at least you know it will get used. If they never got one becasue they didn't want it to ruin their yard or some other reason, at least you find out before you spent the money.
Other than that, I think it is a good idea.
I asked Joe's Mom yesterday if they want a pool. She seemed excited but will ask Joe's Dad for his opinion. So much for the surprise. :(
Well, Joe and I are now the proud owners of a pool. It will fit better into our yard than theirs, apparently. :P
You're all invited to come over next summer (once we've set it up) for a swim!
